Cricut Instruction DVD by Megan at Above Rubies Studio

I received my DVD from Megan yesterday and watched it all the way through. Where was this when I got my cricut and had to scour all the message boards looking for hints on how to do things? Every new owner should have this DVD. Megan starts at the point of connecting the usb cord and takes you all the way through to keeping the machine clean and in good working order. All of the function and mode keys are explained, as well as the different types and uses of cartridges. And she does it all in a clear, concise, and fun way. If you know anyone who has questions about using their cricut, and all its bells, whistles, and buttons, this is definitely a must have.

The dp is from American Crafts Jolly pack and the snowman is cut using the Winter Woodland cart from Bazzill dots and PTI dark chocolate and pure poppy. On the inside, 1" up from the bottom, there is a 3.5 x .5" strip of dp secured at either end with a glue dot. The check slips nicely behind the paper and stays in place when the card is opened.

Friendship Award

This award is given to blogs that are exceedingly charming. These bloggers are not interested in increasing their own status, but rather aim to find friends and be friends. The hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are born! Thanks again to Kristina and Sandy for their gift of this award. Here are my 5 picks. Lou, Magoo, Kate, Eileen (the other Eileen), and Lorraine

I'm so very honored

I received this lovely award from two very special blog friends, Kristina and Sandy. I am truly honored that they thought of me when sharing this.

I'll be back to share this award with 5 others later on today.

Snowglobe Toad

I first saw this image on Ginny's blog My5BratzCreations and knew I had to have it. It's a Dustin Pike image and as always they are creative, fun, and a treat to color. Thanks to Joy for sharing the frosted window technique.

I'm Back

Hi Everyone,

Sorry if I've neglected your blogs but I've been in Wisconsin playing with our 20 month old granddaughter for a week. I did have a few chances to run by and look at all of your gorgeous creations, just not enough time to tell you that they are beautiful and I love em all.

I had a wonderful surprise when I got home. Blog candy that I won at Lorraine's arrived while I was gone. Lorraine mailed it August 6 and we really felt it had been lost forever. Can't begin to tell you how excited I was to see the package ... and then, when I opened it, I was just blown away. Stuffed to the gills with fabulous treats. Again, thank you Lorraine.

Just found out a little while ago that I was a runner-up at the LilyBoos challenge. I'm very honored to have been picked from all the incredible entries. Thank you!

I'm nursing a cold picked up on one of the flights but not sick enough to stay in bed so I'll be back to poking around the blogs as usual. Glad to be home but miss the family.

Good Morning

Like so many of my blogging friends, I'm having computer problems. Our router has developed a gremlin that only works when it wants to, which isn't very often. 3 trips from the computer man later and yesterday it showed it's ugly face again. My laptop is now a paperweight and I'm having to share my husband's antique system. I'm limited as to what I can do since all of my images and digipapers are on my laptop .... aaaarrrrgggghhh!! No posting of cards until this is sorted out. I'll try and get on as often as I can to check in and admire all your beautiful blogs.

Oh, just wanted to mention the two new awards on the left sidebar. The lovely heart is a friendship award from my dear blogfriend Lorraine and that handsome furface is one you can pinch over at Brenda's.

A new blog

Hi,

I decided to pull together a smattering of the painting projects I've done over the past 12 years. Some are painted directly on the wall, some are portable art (painted, sealed, cut out and hot waxed), and some are on canvas. They are not in chronological order, rather in the order they lived in on my desktop folder. No titles yet, perhaps I'll get myself organized enough to put them in next week. If you would like to drop in and see them, they are at dropped stitches too. I'd love to know what you think, I value all of your opinions as artists. hugs to all, eileen

OK, this is going to take a couple of posts to get everything on. A friend of mine is helping out at a Boutique Sale this Saturday and asked if I wanted to make some cards to sell. Since everyone at the luncheon and sale will be female, I decided to use the Loralie Shopping Ladies. These are the 8 cards I made today. Four more to go tomorrow.

Mini Vacation

Well, I'm off to the Florida Keys tomorrow with my darling. We'll be back on Friday. Not a long trip, but it's nice to get away and let someone else make the bed and the coffee. We celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary yesterday and realized that we've actually been together for 31 years! How could this be? I'm only 35 ... on the inside anyway. I look forward to seeing all the wonderful creations you've made in my absence. Till Friday. eileen

Purple Emma and Butterfly

I've been out of commission since Friday. The plastic surgeon did some renovations on my nose. Good new is, it was benign. Bad news is, I could be a stunt double for Jack Nicholson in Chinatown. It's a little challenging to make cards since I can't stay bent over the worktable for very long. Little projects with lots of time in between.

Here's today's creation.

Laminated Alphabet

Just realized that I never posted this one. I made a set of alphabet letters for our grandson. They are 4" high so that he can trace around them, etc. Of course, they needed to be durable .... he is 3! I used the All About Boys stack, cut the pages to 9"x12" and ran them through my xyron 900 using the double laminate cartridge. Then I just cut them out using Plantin School book on rolypoly. I was amazed how well the laminate stuck to the cutting mat and how well it cut. I covered one of my cricut cartridge binders and put them in that so he can keep track of them. It was quite fun.

Sympathy Card

Sympathy cards are always the hardest to make and to send. I try to keep mine as simple as possible. This is the one I tend to use.

Hand Painted Card

Ok, I know how crazy this is going to sound but, I really, really wanted to make an african violet card. I didn't have a stamp. I checked out the digi stamps, and some of our better known stamp sellers and then had my "Eiyiyi" moment. I can draw, I can paint, I don't need a stamp! Yikes, that was a half hour I'll never get back. Anyway, this is my drawn and painted african violet.

Birthday Girl

Here's the card for my 80th Cricut Card Fairy Army Mission. Woohoo!!!! It's for a 6 year-old birthday girl.

happiness ...

Here's my second pass at a card from LAB. I'm really, really liking this cart. I used the square card feature on light grey cs, cut it again on white but stopped the cut as soon as the chair was cut. I offset the white to have the grey as a shadow, then shadowed in the lines with a light grey memento marker. I cut the trees on beige cs, then textured them with brown marker, cut the tree tops twice once in a lighter green then darker green. The flipflops were cut at 1-1/2" and the sentiment is a rub-on I had stashed away.

I'm finally getting around to playing with Life Is A Beach. Here's my first LAB card.

Roan

Here are some photos of our time with Roan. Let this be a warning to all grandmothers. Never let Poppi take a 3 year-old to Walmart and allow him to pick out his own stuff! We had such a great time. Roan was a terrific houseguest.

Clown

Well, this one took forever, not that you would know it by looking at it. The clown is a digital stamp that I colored with markers, copied onto grafix rub-onz film, turned it into a rub-on and then .... rubbed it on the cover paper. The Happy Birthday wave is computer generated and also made into a rub-on. The sentiment is a rubber stamp. Can't even tell you how many times it took to get it to this point. And, I'm not really a big fan of clowns!

Wedding Cake Card

My stepdaughter asked for a card to give at an upcoming wedding. This is what I came up with. I cut the cake card twice at 6-1/2" on wild card. I mixed perfect pearls white with a little water and painted the front of one of the cakes. When it was dry I ran it through the cuttlebug with d'vine swirls, glued on a bow and a "diamond", and pasted it to the plain white cake card.

Also I'll post some photos of little Esme and trip to Wisconsin a couple of weeks ago. Have to wait till nap time!

Just chatting

It's funny. I never really think about posting unless I have a new card to show. But, today I'm just here to chat. My stepdaughter, her husband and their gorgeous 3-1/2 year old son arrived today for a week. Mom and Dad are escaping Thursday for 4 days in Miami, leaving Roan with us. Four days all to ourselves. Heaven!! I won't be doing any crafting or card making. Most of my days will be spent with a cape tied around my neck, playing Robin to his Batman .... and loving every minute of it. I'll post pics when I have some.

Owl Card

I started playing with the DCWV Green mat stack and this is what I came up with. The bottom paper is a digital paper from Memory Makers. Darn if I don't just love that gooney little owl.
